Japan Asia Beer Cup

The Japan Asia Beer Cup (JABC) has been running annually since 1998 and every year more than 200 beers enter this competition hosted by the JBCA. Beers are separated into approximately 85 styles and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to the winners and runners up in each category. This year the competition will be open to any brewery or brew-pub brewing beer within Japan or the Asian region (please contact the JCBA for a complete list of countries eligible to enter).

Judges for the event are selected from Japanese brewers and members of the public who have successfully completed the ‘Beer Judge’ certification programme (run in Japan by the BTO).

How to enter
- Registration forms and a complete list of rules & regulations for international entries can be obtained from the Japan Craft Beer Association (please see below).

- Cost of entry for first time overseas participants is 18,000Yen (US$220) per beer entered (usual price 27,000Yen).

- Breweries wishing to enter should send a completed entry form and entry fee no later than 1st March 2011 (one month prior to the competition). The beers (24 bottles for each entry) should arrive no less than 2 weeks before the competition if arriving from outside of Japan (all beers will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse).

- Entry forms should be faxed to: +81(Japan) 798-70-7172

- Beers will be judged according to international style guidelines* by a tasting panel on 1-2nd April 2011.

- The three (3) winning beers in each category will be announced on 7th April with the individual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded at a ceremony on 5th June at the Tokyo Great Japan Beer Festival 2011. Both local and international media will be informed of the medal winners.

International Beer Competition

The International Beer Competition (IBC) is the most prestigious beer competition to be held in the country and has been running annually since 1996. It is open to beers brewed anywhere in the world and provides the opportunity for international beers to compete against some of Japans finest craft and commercial brews. As with the JABC judges for the event are selected from Japanese brewers and members of the public who have successfully completed the "BeerJudge" certification programme (run in Japan by the BTO) as well as overseas industry professionals. The judging for IBC 2011 will take place in Tokyo scenic Yebisu Garden Place, a re-developed cultural and office complex that was for almost 100 years the home of Yebisu Beer.
